Earlier this year, Panama Vote 2004, an Afro-Panamanian non-profit organization in support of the presidential candidacy of Martín Torrijos, reached out to you for a contribution and/ or donation, and your response was extremely generous, enabling us to fulfill our stated goals, and for this we extend our most sincere thanks. It is also my pleasure to inform you that our culminating event, Celebrating Afro-Panamanian Women was a smashing success, for over 200 persons were in attendance at this affair held at Luntey Commons, Long Island University (Brooklyn Campus), on March 27, 2004. On this evening, Panama Vote 2004 made it a point to honor all Afro-Panamanian women, presenting each woman in attendance with a long stem rose. The highlights of the celebration were keynotes by three prominent, Afro-descendant Panamanian professional women: Journalist Onida Coward-Mayers, Dr. Anjanette Ferris, and Judge Shawndya Simpson.

After the invocation by Paul Martin, welcoming remarks by Roberto Drummond and presentations by the guest speakers, Melinda Del Rosario, on behalf of Panama Vote 2004, offered each speaker a beautiful bouquet of flowers. In closing, George Priestley, chairperson of the organization, read a letter sent by presidential candidate Martin Torrijos and outlined its rationale for supporting his presidential candidacy in the upcoming Panamanian elections of May 2, 2004.

Once again, Panama Vote 2004 extends its gratitude for your thoughtful and generous contribution/donation. Certainly, we will keep you abreast of all relevant political developments on the upcoming Panamanian elections and their impact on the Afro-Panamanian community here in the United States.

Yours truly,
George Priestley
